Time and costs

A ship arrest can be made within one day, in urgent cases the arrest can be done in several hours from the moment the lawyer is instructed until the bailiff actually makes the arrest. In urgent cases it is also possible to be granted permission to arrest a vessel outside normal office hours.

The costs of an arrest consist of legal fees, court fees, the costs of the bailiff and possibly costs of translation for service of documents. Legal fees are generally billed by the hour, but a fixed price is also possible.

Court fees become due the moment the arrest petition is submitted to the court and currently (2021) amount to EUR 667. The costs of the bailiff will amount to approximately EUR 350.
